3 Days of Design Copenhagen 2024

This year’s Design Festival in Copenhagen featured several exciting projects, people, and perspectives - an energy of excitement for Danish/Scandinavian Design. In this blog post, I’m sharing my highlights with you - enjoy!

Copenhagen, Denmark's capital, is known for its impeccable sense of style and design. Every year, the city becomes a vibrant hub for design enthusiasts worldwide as it hosts the renowned 3 Days of Design festival. The event celebrates furniture design, interior design, and craftsmanship, bringing together a diverse mix of designers, architects, craftsmen, and design aficionados for three days of inspiration, innovation, and creativity and it should absolutely be on your bucket list if you’re interested in Danish design!

Celebrating Traditional Craftsmanship

Innovation and modernity are at the forefront of 3 Days of Design, but for me, the best part of the festival is the snippets of traditional craftsmanship on display. Danish design is deeply rooted in a respect for materials and a dedication to quality. Many exhibitors showcase handcrafted pieces that highlight the beauty of natural materials and the skill of the artisans who create them. We started our first day at the festival with a show-and-tell at PP Møbler, where furniture makers showed off their skill and talent in handcrafting chairs.
This blend of tradition and modernity is a hallmark of Danish design and is celebrated throughout the festival.

Inspirational Talks and Workshops

3 Days of Design is also a platform for knowledge sharing and dialogue. Throughout the festival, a series of talks, panel discussions, and workshops are held, covering a wide range of topics related to design and craftsmanship. Industry experts and thought leaders come together to share their insights, experiences, and visions for the future of design. These sessions provide valuable learning opportunities for both professionals and enthusiasts, fostering a deeper understanding of the design world.

I particularly loved the ‘Talk Craftsmanship’ discussion between Master Cabinetmaker Niels Roth and Master Cabinetmaker Jørgen Rasmussen, some of the best craftsmen in Denmark on Moltkes Palæ - the photo below shows the magnificent rooms in the palace. After the talk, was the annual awards for Danish Craftsmanship (awarded by Snedkerlauget).

Words cannot describe the amount of passion and knowledge present at the festival and I highly encourage you to go, if you have just the slightest interest in Scandinavian design - no doubt, it will put logs on your fire. I cannot wait for 3 Days of Design 2025 and I hope to see you there!
