2024 Interior Design Trends

I cannot believe another year has passed, and we’re coming to the end - where does the time go?! The exciting news is that it provides the perfect opportunity to talk about next year’s trends in interior design. Is there a fresh new kid on the block? And how do we ensure that our interiors support the lives we want to live?

Embracing Nature - Natural Materials Continue to Take Center Stage

Nature has always been an enduring muse for interior designers, and in recent years, we’ve seen more and more designers rethinking designs to be more sustainable and better for our health. The spotlight will continue to shine on this in 2024. Incorporating natural materials (think wool, timber, natural stone etd.) and bringing the outdoors inside with plants creates spaces that exude warmth and authenticity.

The natural materials continue to appear in furniture design but also as accent pieces and structural elements in new builds as more builders get excited about working with natural materials. The raw, earthy textures of these materials infuse spaces with a sense of organic elegance and a connection to nature, elevating your environment and well-being.

Soft Curves - A Playful Elegance

Good interior design is all about balance, and with most structural elements being square (for good reasons, engineering-wise!), softening these edges with curves and organic shapes is essential to harmonise your home. In 2023, the arches had their come-back, and in 2024, we’ll see even more curves emerge, offering a sense of fluidity and grace to our homes. From furniture silhouettes to architectural details, these gentle, rounded edges create a welcoming and comfortable environment.

Furniture pieces with curved lines, arched doorways, and rounded edges on countertops or mirrors introduce a subtle yet impactful design element. These elements add elegance to our living spaces and promote relaxation and harmony.

The Unexpected Element - Your Personality

While natural materials and soft curves set the foundation for 2024's design landscape, the addition of ‘the unexpected element’ introduces intrigue and individuality to interiors. This element might manifest as a bold colour splash, artisanal accents, or even technology seamlessly integrated into the design (think that souvenir you got on a special holiday years ago and has been in a cupboard ever since).

The unexpected element can be an item, a colour or even an unusual material, and it can be the final touch that reflects your personality. That element which links all the other pieces and makes your guest interested in looking around the room one more time - the thing that makes your home not ‘just another magazine photo’.

Bringing It All Together

In embracing these trends, the magic lies in their synergy. Picture a living room adorned with wooden furniture featuring graceful curves, accented by a striking statement piece that adds a pop of colour or introduces an artisanal touch.

By combining natural materials, soft curves, and that intriguing element, spaces are not only aesthetically pleasing but also provide a sense of personality and character. These trends invite us to create homes that are not just visually appealing but also spaces that tell stories and evoke emotions.
